CEL was due to the DI cassette starting to act up

So, I took my 2000 9-3 base model (56,000+ miles) in today to find out the cause of the check engine light coming on last Monday. (Of course, today when I started the car, the CEL was not on...after being on most of Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.)
The service manager said that the code logged when the CEL came on indicated there was a problem that pointed to the DI cassette. He said it did not necessarily prove that DI cassette was at fault, but that when they have seen this behavior and this code that 90% of the time the DI cassette is beginning to malfunction and will fail at some point. As has been discussed here, if it does fail and cause too much misfiring, that can burn up the catalytic converter. So, even though the car was still running fine, he recommended it be replaced (along with new spark plugs) and I agreed. (He said the reason the CEL had gone off is that if no problem is detected for two consecutive starts of the car, it will clear the CEL.)
Now I just have to work out re-imbursement with the MasterCare extended warranty guys. We'll see if it is as smooth at they claimed when I signed up back in March...
