I was interested in this same thing.

I bought and put on the ?555? fairing last winter, which is the previous model, and it did just that - sat on the paint. It was a pain to fit. I eventually yanked it off and took it back before I ever took a trip with it.

Supposedly the new fairings - 87x - are a better set-up, but I haven't heard of anyone installing one yet. You may be the guinea pig if I don't get to it first. Not sure I like the gray 'flaps' on the new model, though reading up, I think they act as 'extenders' and might not be needed.

I have seen a Saris fairing on a Viggen that was coming through town once, but I could not tell if it was the factory rack or not, but I am pretty sure you need a Thule fairing with the factory Thule bars.

Sans fairing, I do not bother to put the rack on until I need it. You would think with both Thule and Saab in Sweden, they might have been able to figure this thing out for us already!!
