Okay, so my 1999 9-3S 5-speed got stalled in about 4-5 inches of water last Monday. Car took on about three inches of water only on the driver's side and rear driver's side. Towed to DE Saab. Next day, service manager says they've flused the oil twice and there's still water coming out in the oil. Also, they found a COMB and other road debris in the engine. They blew out the water that they could and eventually got the engine started but it ran really rough for as long as they ran it; I don't know how long they ran it. Also, they said all of the computers under the driver's seat were in need of replacement, and that all of the carpeting and sound-deadening material would have to come out and that we should call our insurance company to see if they would total it because, in her words, "you don't want this car back. It'll run fine for three weeks and then something else'll go wrong with it."
So we call. Insurance guy comes out and looks at it yesterday(Encompass Insurance, the old CNA) and says they want to fix it for $2,153.00!! I asked them "what happens if something goes wrong down the road that is directly attributable to water damage?" Well, that's completely not our concern, it's entirely up to the dealership to make sure everything's up to their standards. "Well, what happens if they can't make all of the repairs for that price?" Well, we'd come out and see about approving a higher allowance for more repairs.
Well, as you can tell, I don't want this car back and was just about counting on it being totaled. I mean, is this engine going to be able to be redlined on a fairly regular basis and "put through its paces" on the weekend "excursions" that I take it on through backroads? But, more importantly, do you think the dealership would possibly be able to fix all of this for that price? Maybe I'm asking for something that can't be told unless seen; that's probably it. But any ideas on how to get this thing totalled? It's worth about $9,000.00 Blue Book but I know the insurance companies always have their own system of pricing it. The service manager is on our side, she probably doesn't want to have to do all of the warranty work(it's a CPO, BTW) on it after this, and said that she will try her best to give them hell about fixing this. Any help and ideas will be greatly appreciated! Andrew in DE.
