The SAAB 9-3 has a design that I would call a flaw. When going through standing water the forward displacement from the front right tire creates a wash right up inside the open cavity behind the headlight. Guess what's waiting there to suck it up? You got it, the intake snorkel! One of the functions of the stock snorkel extending back inside the airbox is to deflect and disperse water in the hope that most of it will settle to the bottom of the airbox and drain out. Those of us who have enlarged the intake (me included) run a potentially higher risk of ingesting water.
Couple this flaw with a hot turbo and you have a disaster waiting to happen
whenever you decide to play Lewis and Clark with your Saab.
The bottom line - take extra precautions to avoid traversing standing water, even just an inch deep, and NEVER, NEVER, NEVER drive in deep water!
Andrew has already fessed up to temporary brain damage. Don't join this club!
