I have a 2001 9-3 convertible and have had "check engine light" issues since I purchased the vehicle. I was told that I must not be putting the gas cap on tight enough. They have run tests and have found nothing wrong. Last week, while going 75 in the far left (fast) lane of a major highway, the engine shut off completely; the car would not re-start and I had to coast across several lanes of traffic to get to the shoulder. The car died completely and had to be towed. Saab dealer was very nonchalant. They seemed to know immediately what the problem was. Is this issue that common? I am still without the car 4 days later, while the DI is being replaced. I checked National Highway Safety Transportation site and saw complaints on this issue of car shutting down at high speeds. I am offering this as I am mad and frustrated. It was a terrifying experience. Also, when the car had 19K miles, the fuel tank bracket broke, leaking gas all over my driveway - it had to be towed then, as well. Am not happy with this car; feel that it is unsafe. I would tell anyone with check engine problems to be very careful.
