Nobody argued the bulbs' physical identicality. They're manufactured on
the same line, of course they are identical except for the base
markings (which are not identical -- this guy needs to be more observant). The tint is not "very light" and the light from the Sylvania product is not "a little bit" dimmer. And the human eye is not the correct tool for
determining "identical" beam patterns. Testing headlamps with different
bulbs installed on a photogoniometer (the correct tool for determining
the isoplot of a beam pattern) reveals significant beam differences between
different-model bulbs (even those made on the same line by the same
manufacturer). And even if this were not the case, the fact remains:
Whiter light does NOTHING to help you see better.
Now, how 'bout some proof:
AutoExpress finally released the results of their new H4 (=9003, =HB2)
bulb tests.
Nothing that shocked me. In a nutshell, OSRAM (not Sylvania) Silverstar
or Philips VisionPlus is the best standard-wattage bulb you can buy, the
best blue-coated bulb's performance doesn't match a decent standard
bulb, PIAA is garbage, and the range of performance in bulbs on the market is huge.
Viz:
Standard and blue bulbs (Osram CoolBlue/Sylvania Silverstar here)
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/product_test/product_test_story.php?id=39920
"Plus 30" high efficiency bulbs:
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/product_test/product_test_story.php?id=39919
"Plus 50" ultra high efficiency bulbs (Osram Silverstar here)
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/product_test/product_test_story.php?id=39917
Here is the cross reference for confusing Osram/Sylvania name games:
Sylvania Silverstar = Osram CoolBlue
Sylvania Xtravision = Osram Super
Sylvania CoolBlue = (old) Osram CoolBlue (replaced by new)
