Check the wastegate actuator. See if it's jammed...can you move it by hand? Start the car and have someone get on and off the gas...does it move? If it's stuck open, you should get something like what you describe.
I wouldn't think the turbo itself would fail suddenly like that with no other symptoms...I wouldn't worry about it being the compressor.
If the wastegate isn't jammed but is always open, it may be the BPC. Not sure of a good way to test that short of replacing the BPC...maybe with an MBC while you're at it.
If that's all good, I wonder if the BOV could be at fault...can it blow off pressure fast enough to give you zero boost even when you try? Maybe....but then you'd never read vacuum on the boost gauge either, I don't think.
So I say the wastegate is always open--either stuck open, or open due to bad BPC. That would allow the exhaust to bypass the turbo, so you get no boost.
