this twice now, and believe it is more than a coincidence. A few years ago I switched from Castrol 10w30 dino to M1 10W30 synth. in my 1994 NG900 SE at 90k. The rear seal began leaking within days. Coiuncidence, I thought, 94's had bad seals. So...last month I buy a used 00 SE with 47K on the clock, prior records show dino oil was used and changed at 3k intervals, I was under this car on a lift and NO LEAKS anywhere. This engine had never been cleaned off. Then I buy a case of M-1 0w40 and a leak appears within days, dribbling from a black box behind the alternator, down the side of my oil pan. This cannot be a coincidence, not twice.
So I think the lesson is if you have a new car or very low miles, begin with and use the synthetic. It appears to be unwise to switch over at higher mileages. I began with synthetics in my 01 Audi TT, and 96 A4 and those cars have never leaked. I would stick with frequent oil changes with the dino in your case. I have put up to 200k on my past 84,88,89 900T's using nothing but Castrol 10w30 dino, never had a leak, turbo or engine problems, so why I got the synth bug on my last two Saabs, I will never know.
