different opinions on this. I took the time to answer your query to let you know what my experience has been. I think we all agree that synthetics are better in these cars, but how good is good enough, and what are your tolerance for leaks, if they occur? Your car will eventually leak oil anyway from somewhere, but why take the chance to accelerate or create a leak.
On the other hand, my 94 SE has been leaking for years and it doesn't bother me anymore...I will get to it if, and when my clutch ever wears out. I just changeout the cardboard on the garage floor now and then. But it stinks and smokes a bit at red lights when it drips on the catalytic converter. Is it worth the extra protection or reduction in sludge buildup over the last few years? I don't know. You decide.
Meanwhile, I will see if I can get Saab to fix the leak on my 00, still under warranty.
If you do this let us know what happens. I hope your experience is better than mine.
