I have the saab sport exhaust on my 2001 9-3 SE and it is quiet. I can hear it with the windows down, but windows up it makes very little difference. I have noticed that it got a bit louder over time but most people think my exhaust is stock. It crackles a little bit on deceleration (The higher the RPMs the louder and more frequent the crackle) and will make the tiniest pop on downshifts if I don't rev-match but it is FAR from loud or obtrusive. It also frees up a little bit of breathing and the car revs more freely but there isn't a huge performance increase.
Better option (I should have done this): you could always get a muffler shop to make you an exhaust which would be far more cost effective and you can choose the muffler.
