My dealer, which I think is quite good, said that yes DIs go out but it is hardly an everyday thing. The service guy said he would not buy a spare. This goes against much of the sentiment on this board, but it is consistent with the idea that message boards tend to make problems seem bigger than they are, and with CR rating these cars better than average in the ignition category. I think it is bad that such a topic even persists for a premium brand car, and I'm surprised by the apparent acceptance of the notion of carrying this type of expensive and critical spare part. The need to do that should be considered unacceptable by the reasonable consumer. If the DI is as bad as this board makes it sound, it would probably not even be fit for a Yugo, let alone a Saab.
