You still get Saab safety and winter invincibility at a reasonable price. C900's with 80-100K miles are somewhat rare but once you find one, grab it.
My Viggen is useless in the snow because of the performance tires (I live in the DC area, so it's not worth it getting a separate set of winter tires), but my 1987 900 8v carried me all over the place even in the middle of last year's blizzard (even on all-season tires). Knock on wood, it has not yet failed me, even in 12 inches of snow.
I particularly recommend an 8v non-turbo because (i) the distinct lack of engine power means you have a harder time putting too much power to the wheels -- i.e., it's got it's own traction control because it's only got 115 hp, and (ii) the skinny stock tires, on non-bendable steel rims, make for even better traction in the white stuff.
