I'm having a rough idle problem after changing the head gasket. I suspect the timing is off one or two teeth. Where is the crank timing marks ??? I couldn't find any timing marks/indicators etc on the front side of the engine ( harmonic balancer, timing cover etc ). I also looked everywhere on the rear of the engine with no timing marks found. I did find a black rubber square plug on the bottom side of the bell housing which once removed looked like it could be a timing indicator inside the hole left the black rubber plug but could find no marks on the flywheel/flex plate. I even removed the torque converter inspection plate and still could not find any timing marks. The cam timing marks can also be confusing. There is a notch in the end of the camshaft near the end bearing cap and there is a timing mark on the front side of the cam gears. HELP! this thing is about to drive me to drink (and I haven't had anything to drink in over 20 years). Well, not that bad but, it would be nice to get it sorted out. Thanks in advance for any help. P.S.- I'm a professional autobody/paint specialist with 34 years full time experience, if I can help someone in my line of expertise feel free to ask me any questions and I'll do my best to help.
