Laws may be a little different from state to state (check with your state's insurance commisioner), but in general you should get the going retail price in your area for a comparable used 9-3SE. To get a feel for that number, check the Kelly Blue Book site http://www.kbb.com and the NADA site http://www.nada.com and fill in the info for your 2001 9-3Se (mileage, options, condition, etc.) and they will give you an estimate for your area. They will list the trade-in cost and the retail cost. Don't let the other driver's insurance adjuster try and get you to take the trade-in cost (or personal seller cost). Hold out for the retail cost.

Take the two numbers from those sites and then check with local Saab dealers to see if they have a comparable 2001 9-3SE and see what they are asking for it retail. (If you don't have one close by that has a 2001 in stock, call others within a few hours drive. Just tell them you might be shopping for one and want to know what they have a what price.) Those three numbers should tell you if the adjuster's offer is in the ballpark.

If you decide you want another 9-3 hatch, you might look for a 2002 9-3 coming back in to the dealer off lease, as they will probably sell tha one as a CPO Saab so you get some warranty with it.
