It depends how long you want or expect your engine to last. :)
It might be wrong, but the way I've always thought about it is that, even if everything is operating correctly within your engine, there are still only a finite number of revolutions available for that engine in it's useable life and spinning it faster for a given distance travelled will rack-up that number at a faster rate.
That said, on my '01 SE, I bump off the rev limiter on a pretty regular basis. :)
