Not to beat a dead horse, but... head gasket and bolts Posted by Keith [Email] (#1462) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Keith) on Mon, 27 Dec 2004 17:22:02 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
In summary to many past posting I propose the following as questions:
To solve the issue pertaining to the incorrect torqueing of the engine bolts at the factory, the best option is to replace the bolts with bolts from pre 1995 saabs?
If new older bolts (original of pre 1995) are not avialable from saab or if one can not get a hold of any, then the best option is to correctly torque the ones in the car and hope of the best?
Also, given that retorqueing (actually torqueing a second time after factory) is not a good thing (irrelavent of the issue pertaining to the physical decay of the gasket itself), which can lead to bolt breakage, additional stretching of the bolts, etc., if one does not know whether the original bolts on the car were torqued after the factory (since it was bought used), then the best advice is to buy new bolts from saab for that model and torque them to the factor spec... and hope for the best?
I am sorry that this sounds like a logic quiz, but I thing I have all the "ifs", "not ifs" and "if and only ifs" in the right places. Add any thing else if relavent.
thanks
Keith
