Do not make a bad car. I sincerely apologize for Saab that your car left you stranded twice and that always makes one wonder. More modern is more reliable. The technology of quality and zero defect assembly has accelerated faster than automotive technology in general. Many of the niggles, antennas, hatch rattles and such have been completely engineered out of the newer models. You could have chosen almost any other European brand and had a much greater incidence of the troubles you describe.

But the 9-3 is a fairly old design, from 1994, and likely some of the niggles are attributable to design, not defects, like the antenna.

If you keep your Saab 9-3 it will very durable in the long run and very reliable too. That's supported in places like Consumer Reports and JD Powers. That doesn't mean we can lay off the service department though. Old Saabs hold up as well or better than any other highline brand IMO and continue to be relatively inexpensive to maintain as we don't cater to a more affluent clientel or models.

Folks who have 9-3s love 9-5s, they are very similar in operation, but a 9-5 addresses many of the engineering shortcomings of a 9-3 and a 9-5 by nature eliminates many niggles, engineering niggles, squeak and rattle niggles, and virtually bulletproof, the most reliable Saab and one of the most reliable European cars of all time. Even the DI cassette has bee improved.

And a 9-5 sedan will swallow Ikea boxes that won't fit in a 9-3 hatchback says LA Gene on these bb's! IMO a 9-5 SportWagon is the perfect hatchback.

New 9-3 SportSedans have had a better start than the first year 9-5s did so I'm told, and the 2004s have also been bullet proof and again the newer design eliminates many 9-3 niggles. And for example, 9-3SS don't have DI cassettes anymore, but instead individual coils.

And where you gonna' find a BB to help like this?
