Sudden engine/electrical failure at 80mph!!!! Posted by Andrew [Email] (#1013) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Andrew) on Wed, 5 Jan 2005 16:53:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a 99' 9-3, 5spd w/ 84K. Owned it since 63 miles. I have my share of problems in the last year...replaced tranny (road damage...long story), head resealed (that headbolt torque issue), but the car has been reliable...never left me stranded, all regular services done. However, this past Friday I got the scare of my life. I live in Denver and was driving up into the mountains on I-70 in the left lane doing 75-80mph when the whole car suddenly just shuts down. No power!! The gauges all go off, HID display off, I'm putting my foot to the floor...nothing. I disengage the clutch unable to even get left. Going up a steep hill you lose momentum quickly! I thought that was the end. I had a GMC truck barreling down on me..and I didn't even know if my BREAK LIGHTS worked! Turned on the flashers..nothing. It's like every piece of electronics in the car shut down. I steered the car as far to the left as I could which still left me half in the highway passing lane. Stopped the car. Then sat wondering for a minute how in the hell my wife and I were not going to get killed getting out of the car. I then did the next natural thing, I put it in neutral, put on the Ebrake and attempted to restart the car. The thing started right up like nothing ever happened!! Drove the rest of the way to Vail and back the next day. Has been fine since (knock on wood). I have a friend here in Denver that says he knows someone who had the same thing happen in his 9-5...I'm trying to track this person down. However, in the mean time... Does anyone have any ideas, heard of anything similar? Could this be the dreaded DI Cassette?
Thanks...
