Saab says it's OK to run 87 in any of their engines, but premium gives the advertised horsepower. There was just a magazine article where they put regular in a Saab turbo and power was down 10%.
Many folks report better mileage with premium. I seem to get about 5-10% better myself. No hard proof of that, but it kinda' makes sense, more power, better efficiency, better fuel economy. So you aren't totally wasting your money by using the good stuff. I do notice the difference in power myself.
