I dont know about it being the first thing to check, there are probably lots of things that would give the symptoms you describe. I do know for a fact that new plugs can make big changes in performance compared to older ones, in my experience. I just mentioned it becuase its probably the easiest DIY. Rule out the obvious first.

Also, are your Vac lines in good shape?
