My 99 vert has problems moving from one mode to the other--I found if I turn on the heater all the way up and keep pushing the button when driving it will move.
More importantly, I set my car up so that the ACC always comes on the dash vents so that I don't have problems moving to this position which a prefer 90% of the time. See owners manual to make car always start in your preferred setting.
Somethig about bad grease in the changer box causes this...$$ to get repaired.
