A/C charging problem solved !(sort of..)

I posted here a few days ago about problems charging my AC. I'd replaced a defective hose, vacuumed it, and starting recharging, but found it was registering full on the pressure gauge after I'd only put one can in, which is about 300 grams out of the required 800. Ands the low side pressure was wandering all over the place, depending on whether the radiator fan was running or not, among other things.
Anyhow I got my WIS CD running again and looked up the charging instructions, and according to them, there's a one-way check valve in the compressor, which means the system cannot be vacuumed from just the low-side port - you got to vacuum from both sides!
This has me wondering - since the AC is a loop, even if it is closed at one point you should still be able to vacuum it from any one point, unless there is a second gate in the system - possibly the expansion valve?
Also, even if this is a problem with vacuuming, you wouldn't think i would be with charging - once the compressor starts running, it should average out any unbalance due to the check valve.
