I drive my 1999 93 SE HOT using regular gas-87 octane - and have 114,000 miles on the vehicle - I was running 93 octane until prices went up..the manual says 87 octane is ok, although the label inside the gas filler door calls for 92 or 93 octane..I am right around the 28mpg mark highway, averaging around 72mph, plenty of power, no knocking...I buy gas from the same Valero station and fill up twice per week with regular-87 octane- for my daily 112 mile round trip commute. I believe that the engine management system adjusts for the octane rating-just stay with the same fuel and do not switch octane often. I did not notice any mor power with the high octane, just slightly better gas mileage, which does not offset the high price.
Why buy premium fuel when the cost/benefit ratio is not there?
