I have a scratch-free, ding-free, problem-free hazelnut 2002 9-3 SE 5-speed which I'm considering parting with. I'm the type who NEVER parks next to other cars and waxes the inside of the wheels (it really does cut down on brake dust). The dealer laughs at me when I bring the car in because its so clean. I bought the car new (of course) for my wife in January of 02. She's driven it only 32k miles and mostly highway -- I just replaced the OEM tires if that tell you how easy she is on the car. Its the closest thing you'll find to putting an 02 in time capsule and unwrapping it nearly 4 years later. Every car I've ever sold the person has told me it was the cleanest they've seen, and that doesn't usually help a buyer by reinforcing that to the seller either. So why sell it? The family is growing and we're considering a larger car (luxury SUV or wagon).
My question is will I do MUCH better by selling the car now WITH a factory warranty verses next spring? Right now the used car market is down with all the new deals from the American makers. Plus, I've always heard the best time to sell a car is in the spring or early summer and not in the fall. The dealer said sell it NOW, but I'm sure they also want me to buy a new 9-7x NOW. Ideally I'd rather wait until next year to buy something after I know how our finances are looking (just started a new job venture this year) — in fact, my wife would problably smack me if I suggested it! BUT I don't want to take a $5000 hit buy waiting 6 months either. What is a realistic number to get now verses next year with no warranty? What a used 02 is going for now verses a 01 last spring may be a good estimate of the difference.
Thanks for your opinions.
