Steven, thanks for the thoughts, but I don't completely agree. First of they aren't "my" numbers, they were from KBB and NADA. Of course a car is only worth what someone will pay, but I trust KBB and NADA since that is what every buyer will also be looking at. Every car I've ever sold the buyer has quoted KBB.
Second, as you noted your 85k mileage is A LOT. Not for a Saab, but for a 3 year old car. Most 3 year old off lease cars will have about half that. Personally I know buying a car with 85k will mean next year it will be up to the big 100,000 mark -- the point when few will want to buy the car. That said, I think you're price of $10k on your car may be about right. One of my friends bought a 01 with 105k for $6k and another sold his CPO 01 with 75k for $13k (dealer offered $12k). Those are not "book" numbers those are closed deals which matched KBB at the time. Both were in fair-good condition. I have a year newer and MUCH cleaner version than theirs with only 32k. Mid teens seems about right.
I'm not in a hurry to switch. Selling cars is a pain in the rear. The car has given me ZERO problems and is paid off. Sure its depreciating $200/mo (based on the book numbers) but a new purchase would run me twice that. Of course, as you pointed out, repairs on a Saab can run pretty steep if not done by an indy, but I'd have to have some serious problems to offset the cost of a new car as well -- what am I doing -- I'm talking myself into keeping the car again!
Thanks for your comments, Steven and good luck on your sale.
