I have the same car... love it.
About a month ago at about 41k, I would hear a rattling when the engine was at an idle (~900 rpms) or when I was decelerating and was coming down through the 1300-1000rpm range. The rattling, upon starting the car, was more resonant and rythmic than anything else... sometimes it would fade out, and sometimes it could come back in quite loudly. It would not rattle at all when accelerating or cruising. I took it into the dealership (Arnold in W.Babylon, NY). The mechanic knew right away what the problem was when I pointed to him where the soundwas coming from "Ohhh, the AC compressor" (which is connected to and I assume powered by the belt), he said knowingly... "It's falling apart" (this would explain why my AC crapped out on a long drive up to Saratoga not 2 days before I noticed the rattling). He explained that this was a common problem in many of the 99-02 93s, and that it usually occurs from 40-60k. Luckily, the car is still under warranty so they just had to order the compressor for me (but watch-out, there may be some backorder delay). He also told me that the car was completely safe to drive while I was waiting for the part. The job took them about 4 hours to complete (in case you want to calculate service charges), but I got a free coolant recharge out of it! All in all, this was a minor problem, but I lucked out that it happened sooner than later.
Good luck with her!
