Even high octane from discount fuel vendors can lead to a fall off in performance, low octane is that much worse. Not just parroting Saabnet dogma here either, it's personal experience. Lower boost, lower mileage, the car just feels... sick. So much so I took the car to the shop the last time I had a bad tank of gas (thanks Meijer!). You won't hurt the car with low octane, the engine management software protects it, but Tronic does that by detuning the performance. It's up to you if you are comfortable with it, but the turbo-zip is one of the things I love the most about my car. It's worth an extra few dollars when I fill up. Plus, some have posted numbers showing you can break even or have a small net savings with 93 because of the increase mileage.
