Indeed, this is a super forum that has a tremendous amount to offer the DIY-er and folks just looking for some reassurance. I have a 2001 Boxster S and use my '95 900SE Turbo in foul weather ('just hate getting the Boxster so dirty), so the maintenance, repairs and such are pretty well balanced between the two of them. Honestly, the costs are fairly similar between the two of them. Both, however, have been surprisingly reliable. The Porsche, though, is quite a bit more robust and substantial, but, I'm in the process of tweaking things on the Saab to inprove the handling, brakes, and such.
I do the vast majority of the work on both cars myself. Given the MUCH better engine access of the Saab, it's a lot easier to work on.
Weak points of the Saab are the front suspension, the convertible top, the idler pulleys, the windscreen washing system, the headlamp wipers, and, well, I think that's about it. Obviously, all but the top and the suspension are just little niggly things. However, depending upon which engine you have, there are several other things that may pop up. Please post which engine and transmission you have for those details.
You say 'former' Porsche owner and you've had some pretty spectacular cars. Why no more?
