OK, so like, a year and a half ago I replaced the SAAB waterpump with one off the shelf from the local parts store. It worked fine, till recently. My 1996 900S has begun leaving tracks on the garage floor in a place that leads me to believe that the new-ish water pump is not so new anymore. The water seems to gather in puddles under the front area of the oil pan, sorta like under the water pump. So, it is my plan to re-replace it. Is there anything else, water related, down there that I need to check while I have the water pump pulled off? When I look around the immediate area of the water pump it's hard to tell if it is, in fact, the water pump that is leaking. I think it is the water pump, but...

I have a brand new belt that I have never installed since when we bought the car, the previous owner had just replaced the pully and the belt. That was about 20,000 miles ago. Should I spring for a new pully and install it after only 20,000 on the old one?

By the way, that brings up an interesting point (at least it's interesting to me). Why doesnt SAAB design a better idler pully? I mean, everyone knows it has a limited life span. I have owned cars that had pullies that lasted for the life of the car with no problems. Why then doesnt SAAB, or someone, give us a better option on pullies? Heck, I would buy the pully that would never need replacing. I had a Nissan truck that had a pully that lasted over 200,000 I know of (maybe it's still going).
