Help!! Oil Pressure

1995 900S 2.3 liter, 138,000 miles, timing chain, balance shafts changed at 100,000 miles. The oil pan and valve cover was pulled 6 months ago with no sludge found.

I have a flickering oil light at idle. It does not happen all the time, but at least once during a 30 min. trip.

Took it in to an independent saab repair shop. They put a oil pressure gauge on it and at idle it reads around 15 psi. That is where the oil sender flickers at. It should be running around 30 psi.

The mechanic stated that the problem was most likely the crank shaft bearings. My options were to get a used engine /installed for $2500 or replace bearings, polish crank shaft for $3500.
I thought of my own option to part the car out. It is in perfect shape. I would hate to do that. For only $3500 you have a car that will run forever... until the next thing goes.

Is there an opinion out there for other things to check like oil pressure relief valve sticking?
