I had the same problem last year with exactly the same problem. It turned out to be the crankshaft position sensor (CPS). A quick way to tell is to crank the engine and observe the tach. If it doesn't register any RPM while cranking, then the CPS is toast.
It's an easy fix, costing approximately $50 and is as simple as unscrewing the old one at the side of the engine block and plugging the new one in. It took me even longer to figure out how to unplug the elecrical connector than to bolt it in!
