Was putting pressure on block to break free and it of course jumped when it broke seal, cracking the tensioner - it's above the part where the tensioner applies pressure, where the chain is trailing off (only makes contact halfway up in a trailing manner) - since it's on the trailing end of the chain, I don't see a problem with guiding it, but looks like a bit more slack may need to be taken up by the tensioner then - wouldn't know without trying to reinstall -
Have you ever run an engine with an abreviated tensioner? It the chain ran the other way it wouldn't work at all (hit the leading edge) but since it trails off the pressure, except for the loss of surface area for tensioning the chain doesn't seem to change angle abruptly enough to cause much faster wear?
Yeah I'm trying to talk myself into this experiment since my pistons and head (#3,4) were dinged, but it would be a longevity issue no?
Really didn't want to remove the cover but if you know it will cause an immediate problem...
