Hey I'm looking at buying a '99 saab convertible with 99k miles(automatic, not SE). The warranty goes to 100k. The lady is the 2nd owner and is very trustworthy and doesn't seem to have ridden the car hard at all. Is 100k a lot of miles to be getting such a car at. I'll probably pay around $8500 if it checks out clean at the mechanic today. The only apparent glitch is that the check engine light is on(apparently that is set off by 1 of 4 things...anyone know what those are?). I looked at another conv. that was the same year, same color, but with 75k miles(and it was SE) for the same price. But when checked out, it had all kinds of problems with the soft top(pistons etc.). So what I really want to know is, am I buying a reliable, fun car that will last me 3-5 years or am I investing in a bottomloss pit that will spend more time at the mechanic and drain me of all my resources because it costs more than most cars for fixes?
p.s. does anyone know what gas mileage these typically get? Her electronic display was reading like 12mpg and that can't be right.
