Hello all, I'm looking at a 96 900S Convertible, auto tranny with a 2.3l 4 cyl. I am a former Saab owner (Pre '94) and have not had one in the past few years. I found one for sale in central NJ, but am a bit hesitant. Here is why... 1. I do not know much about the GM models, 2. I have heard horror stories about the mid 90's Saabs. I test drove it today, and it is tight for the most part. There are two items of concern to me though that I am not familiar with that I was hoping for a bit of insight on if possible.

A. The rear cover which flips up to hide the convertible top was clicking when I attempted to put down the top. Probably not a good sign. Repair Costs??? Anyone know? Self install? Silly question?
B. Is it a timing chain or timing belt? I forgot to look
C. There was a vibration / clunking under my feet wen i would turn the wheels over a bump. I thought it might be the front axles, or suspension? Has anyone xperienced something similar to this?
D. On the 96 auto transmission, had there been a significant performance increase over the pre '94 Saab autos? Any issues with this year in particular that anyone knows of?

I feel at kind of a loss as I had done a lot of the work on my previous Saabs myself or had my mechanic do a bit, but being away from them for a few years it was difficult for me to guage.

I know this is kind of a laundry list of questions, but any input would be 'greatly' appreciated.

Thank you.

Beansie
