Well I successfully changed the batteries in both of my 9-3 combined key/remotes with CR 1632 batteries courtesy of good guy Steven in Pontiac MI (http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/NG900/index.html?bID=227934) That is, sort of successfully. Both keys are now recognized by the car, and the SID no longer warns of need to change the battery. I even followed the recommended procedure of pushing like heck in the side with a very small screwdriver (eyeglass size) and at the same time prying on the cover with a slightly larger screwdriver. But, on remote number two, the nub on the cover broke off. I do have a third remote in reserve which has now been called in to active service. Maybe a small screwdriver does not have a blunt enough tip. While I am feeling a bit ham handed, the guys at Radio Shack broke their own similar tool trying to open one of these remotes. I even had mine very steady and nicely jigged up in my 25 year old B&D Workmate. Boy, I do love that old tool.
So, does anyone have a battery compartment cover, hopefully from an otherwise shot and useless remote, which they would be willing to part with for a modest sum? There is no way I want to spend another $185 or so for a completely new unit and programming charges. TIA DER
BTW, if anyone cares, voltage on a new battery is around 3.38 - 3.4 volts; while the ignition system will give warning when a battery is down to 2.78 and 2.98 volts respectively. Mine were ~5.5 years old.
