Its a 95 900SE v6. My wife drives it. It has over 211,000 miles on it. The engine doesn't leak or burn a drop of oil. The automatic transmission is origional and shifts like its new. The paint has held up very well, but the front leather seats are getting pretty ratty.
I do the timing belt and tensioner every 60k. Do the waterpump, and thermostat and cam seals while you're in there.
Problem spots on our car were the leather seats, seat heaters, the A/C compressor, the A/C expansion valve, the valve covers, and the parking brake. Otherwise, its been a a very reliable car. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere. In fact, I took it on a 2600 mile round trip to Key West from PA last year. Over the years, its been very inexpensive to keep on the road.
I like the v6 engine better than the 4. I've owned them both. The 2.3 is somewhat underpowered, and the 2.0 turbo has just as many quirks as the v6. That being said, I'm not sure I'd want one if I couldn't do the timing belt myself, or have a good independent SAAB guy nearby. It's not rocket science, but you need a special tool, and since its a pretty sophisticated 4 cam v6, it's a little more complicated than most cars. I suspect most of the engine failures result from mechanics who rushed the job and didn't do something properly.
Get an automatic. The asin warner trans is pretty much trouble free. Also get an SE model so you have climate control. The climate control really works well.
