I travel weekly between Elmira and Buffalo. Mostly I have used Forno in Endicott, which was a mom and pop dealership, and totally honest. They were bought out late this last year, and the service dept. has been moved lock, stock and barrel to Mathews. That is too far for you. It is almost too far for me.

Braun, in Buffalo - Cheektowaga actually, is a brand new addition to the old time Cadillac dealer; West-Herr lost their Saab franchise for unpublicized reasons. Their service dept is new and likely still figuring it out. I have only had an oil change done there. It was expensive. The service writer is a decent personality, but you cannot even see where the car is worked on.

Checkpoint, on Kenmore Ave., is a 40 year plus Saab dealer. I went there in college a few times, in another life, when I had a 63 Saab 96 and did most of my own repairs. They were OK. All I can say these days is that the parts department guys seem decent these days and bent over backwards to help me this last winter when my dip stick had to be replaced. You might actually get to talk to the mechanic at Checkpoint if you wander around enough.

The Buffalo places are actually more geographically convenient for me when I am on the Buffalo end of my trips. But right, now I plan on continuing to travel 50 plus miles the other direction. Your story is just that much more motivation to keep doing that.

I would be interested in hearing what others say about Dorschel. They are in my "neighborhood." Re your own situation, if Dorshel continues in this vein, you may be faced with having to document the car's condition with outside mechanics just so you can force compliance with that wonderful CPO warranty that Mike Lynch tells us so much about. Even a great contract has to be backed up, i.e. performed, by people of integrity and good will.
