Wow, what a question!

I'm on my third Saab and my list of what I love about them is long. I've owned a '78 99 Turbo 3dr, an '86 SPG 3dr and now a '02 Viggen 3dr. You may have noticed the common thread...a performance hatch back! I love the ability of these cars to swallow tons of stuff yet they perform like a sports car. Japanese cars are good at what they do.... and so are toasters! I've yet to drive a Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, etc. that has soul.

I'd say my Saabs have taken a bit more attention than say my partner's Toyota, but then again, how I drive and how she drives could easily account for that difference. I've only owned my Viggen for 4 months so I can't say much about it, but my SPG was an amazing car. It may have cost me an 1/8th more in maintenance each year than the Tercel, but it put a smile on my face everytime I drove it. Not to mention, I got chased into parking lots asking if I'd consider selling the car, so when it came time to do so, I just called the first person on the list.

I've found my Saabs designed with service in mind. Saab also sells 'parts' and not 'assemblies' like some other brands (this may not be the case for the newer ones). But most importantly Saabs were not just about marketing (not the case any more as they are becoming more of a 'life style' product riding on past achievement). Saab set standards in design and engineering and they worked. I don't know how many cars I've driven where the rear window defroster was no more than a switch with a light on the dash....the Saab's window clears in minutes in 40 below!

And then there's Saab owners....not many people out there are that passionate about their cars! Must be a reason for that?

I hope my opinionated view helps....
Robert
