Gas gauge--More gas today than yesterday

Yesterday, I parked my car on a fairly steep incline with the car pointing up the hill. The gas gauge registered that the car was almost out of gas, yet upon parking the car, it pointed around 1/4. I figured this was due to the placement of the gauge in the tank and the incline of the car. Strangely enough, afte driving home (about 20 minutes), the gauge remained at nearly empty with the light on. It made me think I had a hole in the tank and gas leaked out while parked. Well, this morning, the gauge is back up to 1/4 and seems to operating normally!
Is this something to be concerned about, or it is just due to the design of the system? Thanks.
