I don't think your problem is a CV joint. CV joints rarely go bad unless the boot is torn and exposed for some time, so that the grease gets dirty or washed away and the bearings wear out.
(One exception is if you've had a rebuilt half shaft put in before. Certain brands of remanufactured half shafts do not last that long even when the boot is undamaged. I've had this trouble after 20-30k on my old '87 Legend. For more info see http://www.raxles.com/no_regrind.aspx)
Also typically, but not always, a worn CV joint will click audibly when turning the wheel hard at low speeds such as in a parking lot.
There is no "symptom" per se of a bad boot; if the boot is torn or cracked or leaking grease, it's bad.
