the only way you wouod get more from the ins is if you take to a body shop for the repairs and then they call the ins co, and say we need this or that. So you won't get the extra money they will in the completion of the repair. Also a ins co will total a vehicle at between 75 to 80% of the value of the car.The reason they do this is so they don't have to pay a supplment on something thta's not worth the value. If you want to buy it back it's usually 10to 20% of what they gave you for the car. Keep in mind you can also tack on loss of use even if ypou don't rent another car in the mean time. So if car is to be in the shop 5days you are intitled those 5 days of rental.At least this is how it works in Washington
