I would put them on the front. In snow I find it helps to treat the front of the car and the rear as two seperate entities. I now it sounds silly, basically when you lose traction you start to brake and the front end slows down but the rear end maintains speed and tries to get ahead of the front end. With bald rear tires it will tend to slide around faster. In order to prevent this you need to stear the front end to keep it in front of the rear end. With better tires in the front you are able to move the front end around better. I went a whole season with good tires in the front and old tires in the rear. It really taught me to respect my speed going around a corner. It was also cool to interesting the rear end would almost snap back into place when you steared into the slide. Deaper snow also keeps the rear end from sliding alot.
