For the best safety in colder snowy climates, get 4 snow tires. I bought online and was able to get them mounted and balanced on wheels. This enabled me to get taller-narrower tires which are better in snow. Also, the rubber compound is important- especially in icy conditions you want improved grip-or a softer tire. I talked to a friend at work who drives about 140miles RT to work (I think he's crazy) and he suggested some tires- I LOVE them- I am told they wear faster(because of the softer compound), but its worth the safety. I've had them on the car for two seasons (this season is a little snowless) and they have performed great in crappy conditions. The were Nokian RSIs...
If you live in a place like coastal CT, and/or only drive 1-2miles to work on flat roads, you can get away with all season radials if you are a good to excellent winter driver, but if your in in Northern NE or CO etc, have snowy icy curvy roads, buy 4 - the "Life" insurance is worth it--and having a Saab- a higher priced auto to repair/replace, also makes it worth it---
