1. Make sure the damage will be covered (either through your insurance or his).
2. There are hardly any non-saab parts that can be used to repair you car, so you are quite safe there. The question is new or used?
3. In my past experience, I found that they estimate the cost of parts not based on the brand-new units ordered from the dealership. They use "market" prices, and the total will be much less than if it were repaired at the dealership with brand-new parts.
4. There are two approaches that are commonly taken:
a) Find a body shop that is able and will be able to haggle on your behalf. They will take over the entire repair, and they will force the insurance to cover all those costs. You will not have to do a thing.
b) Take the checks (try to make them as large as you can, by doing several appraisals, say by your company and his). This check may not be enough to cover dealership repair, but an indy will be able to do a very nice job with it. Finding the right parts cheaply is possible, but it takes time... That is the major problem with this approach.
5. Some (most?) insurances include compensation for renting a car while yours is in the shop (to a certain limit). This may help you to get by in the interim.
