Thanks for the input everyone! I do appreciate all of your suggestions and opinions because it gives me more information so I can make a more informed decision.

Anyway, my car is a 1999 9-3. I know the mechanic said where it's leaking, but I forget exactly what he said . . . "it's leaking where the ???? comes in" - so it wasn't leaking in the middle.

It's nearly due for another oil change in 600-700 miles. Last time I changed the oil, I had them use synthetic because I had read about sludge. Ugh . . . it's just one thing after another with cars.
