Those exact symptoms just happened to me starting a couple of months ago. Car would start just fine, run fine, but if I turned the car off, say at a gas station, it would have to cool down for a while before it would start again. On the advice of people here I replaced the CPS, it was a cheap fix so I figured what the hell...
It didnt work.
So I took it to a mechanic who suggested the starter. I told him the starter had been tested at Sears and they said it was fine. He told me the people at Sears were jerks but I could listen to them if I wanted to...
I changed the starter, since then (about 6 weeks or so) the car starts and runs every time, no problems. Moral of the story? Even if a car has the "classic" symptoms of something, it can still be something else, and Sears mechanics are sketchy.
P.S. I bought the starter off e-bay used for $70 so that was a pretty cheap fix too.
