I have a 99 9-3 which had poor am reception. I found that the ground on the electric antenna was defective. I read more than 30 ohms from the ground on the antenna to ground on the car. I subsequently substituted another electric antenna with the proper ground and the AM radio recetion is much improved. Also disconnect the radio from the car and reconnect power connector. This will give you a better ground. You can also run a ground wire from the black power connector cable to the radio chassis. This will give you a good ground which is required for AM reception. Let me know if I can be of any futher help.
