I will be the first to admit that I am not a oil rep. so this is just based on my experiences in about 8 to 10 cases when I was in the field working as a tech. One car that comes to mind very vividly was a 90 chevy beretta gtz 2.3L HO it had conventional oil in it all of it's life, replaced on time every 3000 miles and logged before I started to work on this car and after. Until the owner decided that he wanted to replace the oil with synthetic. I changed it with the same brand of oil just in synthetic form, if I remember he mileage was about 110k, this car does have a factory oil pressure gauge in the dash not a idiot light(and oh do I dislike those!)the oil pressure with the 10-30w conventional was about 35-40 at a warm idle 55-60 at cold idle it was cold that week but the car had always had good oil pressure. after the oil change to synthetic it dropped to 5ish to 10ish warm and 25 to 30 cold, and yes it was 10-30 synthetic I couldn't have belived it if I wouldn't have done it myself. I called the owner and told him the ordeal and he came down and we test drove the car (around the block, slow). I advised him to swap the conventional back in, 30 minutes later with fresh 10-30 conventional it was back up to the 35-40 and 55-60. I had this happen on a few (domestic and foreign) other cars when I was wrenching and swapped back with the same result. Like I said this is just my experiences. Also, I have nothing wrong with useing synthetic I do perfer it but when this happens, well do you run the chance or change it back.
