I have a 2000 base w/automatic, and I have found this car to be particularly sensitive to wheel balancing. I've had the same symptoms as you on two separate occasions and each time I feared it was the inner driver. But each time the problem was solved with a very careful wheel balance. I say "very careful" because on one occasion the problem occurred right after I had taken the car in for a rotation and balance! If you have a choice, find a wheel/tire specialist in your area that does Hunter Road Force Balancing. This is not a gimmick, but different process than the normal balance you would receive from a chain store, and usually only the serious specialists pay the extra money to buy the machine. You can find a listing of places that perform this by visiting Hunter's web site.
If you feel like doing a little detective work on your own, try moving the front tires to the back (one side at a time) to see if this changes the situation. You may be able to isolate the guilty tire, and it may be the one you had repaired.
