Water pump replacement

Just wanted to leave some info about my experience with my 1997 SET water pump replacement.
I have changed 3 pumps in 60000 kilometers. The 2 Hepu pumps that I have put in did not last at all. The first started leaking early and was changed after 40K The second one started leaking from the mechanical seal on the shaft after a couple of weeks. The third one is an OEM and hopefully will last long. In a nutshell don't try to save money with an Hepu, buy OEM.
The other piece of advice is about installation. The last pump I put in leaked right away from the transition piece between the pump suction and the block at the pump side. I made the mistake to stab the transition piece in the block and then slide the pump on it. Do it the way around put the piece in the pump and stab the hole thing in the block being careful to center the guide slot in the block. Of course carefully clean all the surfaces with coarse scouring pads (the green ones for washing up))and lubricate the o rings.
The design of the joint between block and pump is terrible and prone to leaks. The leak occured because the transition piece is too short and the o ring did not reach the correct position in the pump. Once in place it does not come out of the pump only because of the friction of the O rings and the flow of the water being opposite.
Saabs, you have got to love them and I do!
Cheers
